Can I change the filename pattern without affecting captures already saved?

Yes. The pattern only applies at capture time. Changing it in Preferences affects the next capture and everything after — files already on disk keep the names they were given.

What does the {app} token use if no window is focused?

If no foreground app can be identified, the token resolves to an empty string and is omitted from the filename. The rest of the pattern still resolves normally, so captures never fail because of a missing token.

Does the counter stay in sync if I export to multiple presets at once?

Yes. When a single capture exports to five store presets simultaneously, each output file shares the same counter value for that capture — they are distinguished by the {preset} token. The counter increments once per capture event, not once per output file.

Is the naming template per-profile or global?

The naming pattern in Preferences applies globally across all captures. Export template selection (which store presets are active) is separate and configured in the Templates tab.

Will it overwrite an existing file if I capture the same screen twice?

No. Argus Capture checks whether the resolved filename already exists in the output folder and appends -2, -3, and so on until the name is unique. No file is ever silently overwritten.
